HOUR OF CODE POST

This video is good because it helps you see how that everybody can learn new things. Coding is a new thing for most people and it is very important in the 21st century.
The importance of programming:
We live in a digital world where computers and software are making big changes to how we live.
If we can get a computer to do tasks and solve problems we can make big progress. Coding and programming is the future so we should learn  as much as possible and try to improve our computer skills. Programming is about giving the tools to learners so that they can experiment and practise and then create.
Nowadays, many jobs involve information and technology and there are digital solutions for almost everything. You can use GPS to find your way and drones to take photos from the sky....there is no limit! So if you have the skills to use technology to invent and create new things it is fantastic. In my opinion, coding is a skill that all students should learn because it can help in lots of different areas. At school, you can do much better presentations with digital applications. Communication is very important too. Just think of Skype and all the other quick ways we can contact people. Basically I think that there are so many things that have been invented by coders that we just have to try to learn as much as we can. If we don't we will get left behind and become prehistoric.
My experience with SCRATCH
Well, I like the idea of learning how to code and create things like animations on the computer but I  don't really like Scratch. In fact, I can't stand it. This is because I have spent loads of time on it and I don't like the results . You need the updated versions on your browser and our computers at home are rubbish- really slow. Maybe its the internet connection. When I thought I had an animation with a cat and a castle with dancers I lost it. I think I need more patience.
Ideas to promote the Hour of Code
I think the Hour of Code is a good idea because it is great to connect and be connected well feel connected with other people doing the same as you. My cousin Lauren is at a school in England where they have CODE BUDDIES. They share what they do with another class, their "Buddies".
I think we could have CODE BUDDIES in different countries and after our code hour we can connect by skype and talk about it. To celebrate it, I think we could have a CODE DAY, just like BOOK DAY or PEACE DAY. This helps everyone know about it. Maybe some shops like Arta Digital could offer a prize for a CODE COMPETITION.

METALS

METALS POST: The definition of metal is any of the elements with a positive electrical charge, typically with a shiny surface and a good conductor of heat. An example of metal is gold.   Types of metal -There are 2 types of metal : ferrous and non-ferrous Ferrous metals contain iron. Non-ferrous metals do not contain iron. A pure metal only consists of a single element. This means that it only has one type of atom in it. The common pure metals are:-aluminium, copper, iron, lead, zinc, tin, silver and gold. Ferrous metals are steel, cast iron and carbon steel. Ferrous metals are not malleable,( they do not bend as easily). Some ferrous metals are very strong, long-lasting, and magnetic. These characteristics are beneficial for building or for use in certain industries. Here is a steel skeleton structure used for building houses and flats.( source: www.pixabay.com)   N on ferrous metals are not attracted to a magnet and they also do not rust in the same way...

SUSTAINABILITY

What is sustainability? Sustainability is all about protecting natural resources and making sure as little damage as possible is done to the environment. It means protecting all the living creatures and biodiversity. It also means that all people and communities should be treated fairly too. It is about trying to find good ways to use natural resources and good ways to recycle and reduce waste products. Sustainable forests are very important because in the past trees were just cut down and land used for other things like pasture for sheep and cattle. Now  people have learnt we must replant and have reforestation. In some countries like Canada there are lots of sustainable forests. Here is my presentation.( Great Lakes Sustainable Forest) In Spain there are not as many , in fact only about 7% of forestland has the certificate of sustainable. This is because there are lots of small forests with private owners and it is easier to make a big area sustainable. There is a private o...

STRUCTURES

POST NUMBER 4: Structures A structure is something that has been made or built. Structures are not just buildings and really structures are everywhere, in the natural world too. For example, a spider's web or honey-comb are examples of natural structures while a house or a wall are man-made structures. A structure is not only a big construction but even small simple things that you see and use everyday and everywhere. A handbag or a pencil case and even a football is a structure. Most structures are built for a special purpose for example a bag  to keep things or a bridge to cross a river. But natural structures can happen by accident and over long periods of time, for example stalactites in caves. Basically , structures are EVERYWHERE! Structures can have many uses and usually help us in our everyday lives.ALL structures have certain things, which are a definite shape and size and a definite purpose. A structure will serve a specific function so its shape and size will depen...
